Alex’s primary area of practice is labor and employment law. Alex devotes a significant part of his practice to advising clients on all aspects of the prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements of the Inflation Reduction Act. His experience includes drafting and negotiating project and service agreements, developing compliance protocols, assisting clients with seeking Department of Labor clarifications and wage determinations, and counseling clients on interpreting IRS and Department Labor regulations and guidance. He has represented project developers, investors, service providers, and suppliers on wind, solar, carbon capture, nuclear, hydrogen, and geothermal projects.
Alex has significant experience conducting investigations into matters related to the workplace and executives, advising on day-to-day employment issues, and helping clients solve novel problems that arise in a changing legal landscape. Alex provides counsel with respect to the requirements for government contractors, multi-jurisdictional non-compete agreements, and all aspects of transaction-related labor and employment matters, including international transactions. He assists clients with drafting employment agreements, non-competition agreements, and separation agreements.
Alex is also a seasoned litigator having represented clients in litigating wage-and-hour class action claims, National Labor Relations Board charges, and employment discrimination claims. Alex has a wide array of experience in state and federal court and before administrative agencies.
Alex serves in firm’s pro bono committee and has served as a mock trial coach for Duke University, The Ohio State University, and the UCLA School of Law. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the American Mock Trial Association.
Experience Highlights
Conducted investigation on behalf of publicly-traded parent company into potential breaches of fiduciary duties by a senior manager of a recently acquired subsidiary
Conducted investigation into and advised on alleged workplace misconduct of a former executive of a large arts organization
Successfully defended National Labor Relations Board charge alleging that the employer failed to bargain in good faith over wage increases resulting in complete withdrawal of the charge
Advised client on the restrictions and obligations imposed by becoming a government contractor as a result of selling customized products to the United States Department of the Army
Defended nationwide retail companies against wage-and-hour class and collective actions
Secured denial of temporary restraining order in tortious business interference and defamation claims brought by former employee resulting in dismissal of all claims
Conducted training on sexual harassment, social media use, and union avoidance for automobile manufacturers
Represented retail company before New York Department of Labor against allegations of wage-and-hour violations; obtained closure with no penalties assessed
Advise national and multinational employers on federal and state employment law; draft employee handbooks and policies on all aspects of employment, including compensation, leave, accommodations, social media use, wage statements, and termination
Defended discrimination claims on behalf of nationwide employers before federal and state courts and administrative agencies
Clovis Point Capital in a majority investment in ZynBit.com and merger of ZynBit with Cirruspath, another Clovis Point portfolio company, to create a customer acquisition platform
