This CLE webinar will provide an overview of the final regulations issued by the IRS and the Treasury Department revising the standard under which a real estate investment trust (REIT) qualifies as a domestically controlled investment entity for purposes of the federal tax exemption under the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA). The panel will discuss the new framework for determining “domestic control” under the new look-through rules, the 10-year transition period for existing REITS, and the implications of these new rules on REITS moving forward.
