Antitrust Litigator Stephen Medlock Joins Vinson & Elkins as Partner in Washington, D.C.

Stephen Medlock

Vinson & Elkins announced today that Stephen Medlock has joined the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C., bolstering an Antitrust Litigation practice that handles many of the nation’s most high profile cases.

Medlock is a trusted advisor to clients in antitrust compliance matters, with a particular focus on clients in the food, beverage, consumer packaged goods, automotive and technology industries. While he primarily represents defendants, his mix of plaintiff and defense-side experience gives him a unique view on issues that exclusive defense-sided practitioners may miss in a full range of antitrust matters, including corporate counseling, internal investigations, civil non-merger and criminal cartel investigations and litigation. He joins Vinson & Elkins from Mayer Brown.

“Vinson & Elkins’ Antitrust practice has a prodigious history of securing victories for clients over many decades, garnering the reputation as one of the leading antitrust firms in the country. With more government attention on antitrust enforcement, we want to continue growing our practice for the foreseeable future and have prioritized strategic hiring to provide high-quality antitrust advice and support to our clients,” said Craig Seebald, Co-Head of Vinson and Elkins’ Litigation & Regulatory department and a leader of the firm’s global Antitrust practice. “Stephen is well known across the antitrust bar as one of the leading young lawyers in the field, and the addition provides depth to our bench in key industries such as food and beverage, consumer goods and technology.”

Medlock has secured victories for clients in major antitrust class actions and antitrust cases alleging monopolization and attempted monopolization at critical stages, including winning dismissal prior to discovery and prevailing at summary judgment. He currently serves as a Vice Chair on the Exemptions and Immunities Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law.

“Vinson & Elkins has established one of the nation’s premiere Antitrust practices for large infrastructure and technology clients, and it’s a team that brings a lot of synergies to my existing and previous client work,” said Medlock. “Antitrust law is a continuously evolving landscape, so to be able to integrate myself with a set of colleagues who focus so intently on client service and collaboration provides a lot of opportunity for growth in my practice area.”

Medlock received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law, and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.

Vinson & Elkins’ nationally recognized Antitrust practice guides clients through their most challenging competition law issues. The team helps domestic and international clients with needs from the boardroom to the courtroom: structuring strategic transactions, obtaining regulatory clearances, facing regulatory inquiries and criminal investigations, and litigating class actions and other civil cases.
