Law360 Names Roberta Downey a 2023 Construction MVP
Vinson & Elkins partner Roberta Downey has been named one of Law360’s 2023 Construction MVPs for her recent work on some of the largest projects this year, including securing an injunction in relation to the Penguin North Sea oil and gas field. Downey was one of only three lawyers worldwide selected for the construction award.
Law360’s MVPs of the Year are attorneys who have distinguished themselves from their peers over the past year through high-stakes litigation, record-breaking deals, and complex global matters. A team of Law360 editors selected the 2023 MVP winners after reviewing more than 900 submissions.
In a recent profile, Law360 lauds Downey for her involvement in reshaping Vinson & Elkins’ international construction practice after joining the firm in October 2021.
“Vinson & Elkins always had a strong construction practice, but when I merged my team with an existing team, we doubled the size of the team without losing the quality,” Downey told Law360. “We combined this team of incredibly ambitious construction specialist lawyers and built this powerhouse.”
When asked what advice she would give to junior attorneys, Downey said they should say “yes” to everything and “get out of your comfort zone.” She explained that work can stem from places you wouldn’t expect, and you never know what you will learn from an opportunity.
