Vinson & Elkins Named a Law360 "Energy Group of the Year" for 13th Time

In a profile of the firm as a 2023 Energy Practice Group of the Year, Law360 detailed many of successful energy deals and cases Vinson & Elkins handled last year.

“Energy is embedded deep within the 100-year-old Houston-based law firm’s DNA, and virtually all its practice groups touch the industry in one way or another, said James D. Thompson III, a trial attorney and former petroleum engineer who co-heads its litigation and regulatory departments, and Danielle Patterson, a deputy practice leader for its energy transactions and projects group.

On the litigation front, Vinson & Elkins helped Denver-based Antero secure the quarter-billion-dollar-plus judgment in a suit claiming Veolia Water Technologies fraudulently induced it to sign an agreement for the design, construction and operation of a produced-water treatment facility in the Marcellus Formation in West Virginia.

On the transactional front, Vinson & Elkins advised midstream operator Crestwood Equity Partners LP on its $7.1 billion sale to Energy Transfer, Brigham Minerals Inc. on a $4.8 billion agreement to combine with Sitio Royalties Corp., Earthstone Energy Inc. on its $4.5 billion sale to Permian Resources Corp., and EnCap Investments LP on a nearly $4.3 billion sale of leasehold interests and assets to E&P Ovintiv Inc.”
